DESCRIPTION:Lunch with Canada's Minister of State for Transport\, Steven Fletcher\n\n	Minister Fletcher will speak to: \nInvestment in infrastructure is a key element of the Harper Government's plan to create jobs\, growth and long-term prosperity for all Canadians.\n\n\n\nInfrastructure has always been\, and will continue to be\, a key driver of Canada's success as a nation. From the Rideau Canal to the national rail system to the Trans-Canada Highway\, infrastructure forms the fabric of our nation and plays an important role in our lives and Canada's economic well-being\n\n\n\nThe Harper Government has committed to delivering a new long-term infrastructure plan that will support Canada's long term economic growth.\n\n\n\nBy working together with our partners\, we will ensure that Canada has the strong infrastructure it needs to grow and prosper for years to come.\n\n	\n\n	Steven was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004 in the west Winnipeg federal riding of Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia. He was re-elected in 2006\, 2008 and 2011 with increasing margins. \n\n	After being first elected in 2004\, he was appointed the Official Opposition Critic for Health and was a member of the Standing Committee on Health. During his time as health critic\, Steven championed compensation for the ?forgotten victims? of Hepatitis C. He also worked with other parties to dramatically reduce trans fats from the Canadian Food Supply. \n\n	In June 2005\, Steven championed a motion in Parliament calling on the government of the day to "fully fund and implement the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control" and "immediately develop an initiate a comprehensive national strategy on mental illness\, mental health and heart disease". \n\n	In 2006\, Prime Minister Stephen Harper formed Government and appointed Steven to the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health. Following through on Steven's 2005 motion\, the newly elected Conservative Government moved to fully fund and implement the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control\, establish the National Mental Health Commission and the national framework for Cardiovascular Disease. \n\n	After the 2008 election\, Prime Minster Harper appointed Steven to Cabinet as Minister of State (Democratic reform). In the weeks following the 2011 election\, Mr. Fletcher was appointed Minister of State (Transport). \n\n	A question and answer period will be included in the program.
