They will be available to answer any questions and discuss confidentially any sensitive questions you may have\, after the session.\n\n\n\nThis will be a roundtable on the recent developments in global economic sanctions and the key questions to consider when thinking about your transaction strategy and compliance culture in the context of the international sanctions framework.\n\n\n\nEconomic sanctions are among the top choice of foreign policy response tools in North America and in the EU and are increasingly imposed on countries and stakeholders whose actions conflict with international law or foreign policy goals. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speakers:\n\n\n\nNeelu Shanker\, Global Affairs Canada\n\nNeelu Shanker is the Deputy Director for Sanctions Operations at Global Affairs Canada. In this role\, she leads the part of the broader Sanctions Policy and Operations team responsible for\, among others\, stakeholder relations\, the permit and certificate application processes\, and sanctions compliance and enforcement. Neelu has a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School. She joined Global Affairs Canada in 2009\, and has worked on a number of files relating to multilateral legal affairs\, human rights\, cybersecurity\, trade\, and sanctions. This work included international assignments with the Embassy of Canada to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations.\n\n \n\nJonathan Brasnett\, Global Affairs Canada\n\nJonathan Brasnett is a Senior Advisor working on Sanctions Operations at Global Affairs Canada. In this role\, he is responsible for stakeholder relations\, processing permit and certificate applications\, and engagement with the Standing Joint Committee on the Scrutiny of Regulations. Jonathan has a Master of Arts from the University of British Columbia. He joined Global Affairs Canada in 2015\, and has worked on a number of files relating to Canada's bilateral and multilateral relations\, including on trade\, human rights\, and sanctions. This work has included assignments with the Northeast Asia Division\, the Greater China Division\, and the Inclusion and Religious Freedom Division\, as well as a brief international assignment at the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.
