SUMMARY:May 6\, 2025 - Digital Impact Learning Lab: A Leader’s Guide to Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:Mental illness and mental health challenges are increasingly prevalent in Canadian workplaces. Employers care about the health and well-being of employees but often feel unsure about how to support an employee who may be struggling with a mental health challenge or illness. \n\nThis workshop increases awareness of mental illness in the workplace and explores the following concepts:\n\n\n	Identifying symptoms of burnout\, a mental health challenge\, or illness (and distinguishing the differences).\n	The legal imperatives: Duty to Inquire and Duty to Accommodate.\n	How do you talk to an employee that you think might be experiencing a mental health challenge?\n	How to separate struggling performance or "bad behaviour" from illness.\n	How to look after your mental health (put your oxygen mask on first!).\n\n\nWorkshop attendees will leave with tangible and practical tips and tools to apply in the workplace.\n\n\nKristin Bower facilitates this workshop. Kristin is an experienced equity\, diversity\, and inclusion (EDI) consultant with over two decades of experience in human resources\, specializing in EDI strategy\, inclusive employment\, and mental health advocacy. She co-authored the federally funded Untapped Talent: B2B Guide to Innovative Hiring and Retention and has contributed to the Hire for Talent Toolkit and Pearson's post-secondary textbooks. Previously recognized with Open Door Group's UnTapped Award\, she has collaborated with CMHA\, the Mental Health Commission of Canada\, and the Conference Board of Canada. Kristin has been featured in The Globe and Mail\, CBC Radio\, and Roundhouse Radio and holds an Award of Achievement in Diversity & Inclusion from UBC.
